Kvantron Smart Cap Control

Automatic cap, closure, and capping quality inspection on the production line

Kvantron Smart Cap Control
About the product

Kvantron Smart Cap Control

Vision system for automatic quality control of caps and closures on bottles, vials, canisters, and other containers. Inspects every unit in the flow, detects capping defects, cap damages, geometry deviations and automatically sends a signal for rejection.
  • Control on the production line

    Used to inspect individual caps on the production and sorting line before capping.

  • Post-capping inspection

    Checks caps already screwed onto the bottle after the capping unit. Detects skewed caps, under-torqued caps, and missing caps.

  • Automatic rejection

    If a defect is found, the system automatically sends a signal to the reject device. Defective products are removed from the flow without stopping the line.

  • What defects does it detect?

    Cap damages, geometry deviations, skewed caps, chips, cracks, deformations, missing or wrongly positioned closure.

What the system controls

  • Cap geometry
    • Cap height and diameter
    • Ovality and conicity
    • Skew and seating height on the bottle
    • Gap between cap and tamper-evident ring
  • Capping quality
    • Missing cap or incomplete capping
    • Skewing during screwing or improper thread seating
    • Tamper-evident ring damage or bridge breakage
    • Seal integrity by visual parameters
  • Cap defects
    • Cracks, chips, and deformations
    • Micro-holes and contamination
    • Defects at injection point and threads
    • Seal and inside surface damages
  • Color, print and marking
    • Cap color and product format compliance
    • Printed marks, logo, date, and batch number
    • Code readability and no image shift
    • Control over mixing caps of different colors or batches
  • 100% in-line inspection

    The system checks 100% of caps or bottles with caps, not just samples. This allows preventing defective products from reaching the client and quickly detecting production issues.

    Depending on configuration, the system can operate at speeds of up to 50 caps per second, which equals up to 180,000 caps per hour for individual cap inspection and sorting tasks. For cap inspection on bottles, the speed is adapted to the specific line's throughput.

    Kvantron Smart Cap Control

    Industrial vision system for automatic cap and closure inspection. It checks geometry, thread, color, print, tamper-evident ring, bridges, seal, injection point, and capping quality on the bottle.

    The system helps producers control each product unit, automatically reject defects, and gain precise analytics on defect reasons.

    How Kvantron Smart Cap Control works

    After the bottle passes through the capping unit or after cap feeding to the inspection line, the system registers the object via a sensor, receives images from the cameras, and analyzes them in the Kvantron Smart platform.

    The system algorithms perform:

    • cap detection in frame;
    • contour extraction;
    • geometric parameter measurement;
    • thread and ring analysis;
    • color check;
    • local defect search;
    • comparison with reference parameters;
    • defect classification;
    • decision-making: pass or reject;
    • rejection signal transmission;
    • logging line, batch, defect type, and event time statistics.

    Monitor not only defects, but also their causes

    The system can not only remove defective caps but also help technologists understand why rejects occur.

    Kvantron Smart Cap Control generates statistics by:

    • defect types;
    • rejects per shift;
    • defect dynamics over time;
    • mold cavity number, if available;
    • production batch;
    • line settings;
    • recurring deviations;
    • reasons for stoppages and rejection.

    This enables faster detection of worn mold elements, unstable capping unit performance, material and temperature issues, printing or cap transportation problems.

    Injection mold cavity number tracking

    For cap manufacturers, the ability to sort and analyze by cavity number is especially important. If a technological cavity number is present, the system can recognize it and link defects to a specific mold cell.

    This provides opportunities to:

    • find the problematic mold cavity;
    • avoid stopping the entire mold without need;
    • perform targeted maintenance;
    • reduce recurring defects;
    • gather objective quality statistics.

    This approach is used by leading foreign cap inspection systems: INTRAVIS separates cavity number analytics for mold configuration, and IMDvista focuses on a single management center and 100% inspection as part of a full production line.

    Advanced cap types supported

    The market is moving from simple standard caps to more complex types: sports closures, flip-top, push-pull, tethered caps, dispensing closures, and caps with multiple inspection zones.

    Therefore, Kvantron Smart Cap Control can be adapted for:

    • standard screw caps;
    • sports closures;
    • flip-top caps;
    • push-pull caps;
    • tethered caps;
    • caps with tamper-evident ring;
    • caps with dispensers;
    • caps for household chemicals;
    • caps for oils and technical fluids;
    • caps for pharma and cosmetics.

    Competitors also develop in these directions: INTRAVIS offers CapWatcher SC for sports, flip-top and push-pull caps, while IMDvista promotes its AI-based approach for advanced and tethered closures without mandatory mechanical orientation.

    Benefits of Kvantron Smart Cap Control

    • Comprehensive cap control

      The system checks geometry, thread, color, print, tamper-evident ring, bridges, seal, injection point, contamination, and micro-defects.

    • Cap inspection on bottle and for separated caps

      The solution can be used either after cap production or after capping the bottle.
