Presetter Kvantron Smart AP450

Pre-setting of cutting tools outside the machine

Presetter Kvantron Smart AP450
About the Product

Kvantron Smart AP450

Hardware-software suite for precise pre-setting of cutting tools outside the machine.
  • What it measures

    Milling cutters, boring systems, adapters, and other tooling equipment. Controls projection, radius, diameter, and height of the tool before machine installation.

  • How it works

    The operator receives measurement results on a touchscreen display in a convenient interface. The system helps quickly prepare the tool for operation.

  • Implementation results

    Reduced setup time, minimization of operator errors, fixating tool parameters for later use, increased processing stability.

Why use a presetter?

Setting up the tool directly on the machine takes time, requires high-level operator skill, and increases equipment downtime. Input errors in tool parameters can cause rejects, extra test cuts, premature wear of tooling, and lost productivity.

Kvantron Smart AP450 solves these challenges by moving tool setup outside the machine.

While the machine is processing a job, tools can be measured, prepared in advance, and their parameters can be sent to the production workflow.

  • How Kvantron Smart AP450 works

    The core of the presetter is a shadow optical measurement method. The tool is placed in the measurement zone where its contour is formed in transmitted light. A telecentric source produces a parallel light beam, and the optical system and CMOS sensor capture the cutting edge projection.

    The software analyses the image, determines the extreme points of the tool projection, and computes its parameters. Mathematical interpolation and contour approximation algorithms are used to achieve subpixel accuracy.

    The measuring position along X and Z axes is monitored using optical linear encoders. Data from encoders and the optical micrometer are unified in the presetter's coordinate system. After calibration, the coordinate zero matches the cutting tool axis.

    Kvantron Smart AP450 — presetter for precise tool setup outside the machine.

    Measure projection, diameter, radius, and tool height before machine setup. Minimize setup time, reduce operator errors, and boost machining stability.

    What does the system measure?

    Kvantron Smart AP450 lets you measure key parameters of cutting tools:

    • tool projection;
    • tool radius;
    • tool diameter;
    • tool height along the Z-axis;
    • cutting edge position;
    • runout over axes;
    • parameters for each measured edge.

    In the software interface, the operator sees live values for radius, diameter, and tool height, as well as a cutting edge image in transmitted light. Measurement data can be compiled into a report for each edge.

    Kvantron Smart AP450 Software

    The Kvantron Smart AP450 software is designed for operator-friendly work with the presetter. The interface is shown on a touchscreen and allows calibration, measurements, column movement, data saving, and report creation.

    Software features:

    • automatic interface loading at system start;
    • calibration with a reference adapter;
    • input for calibration tool parameters;
    • tool measurement mode;
    • visualization of the cutting edge on the screen;
    • focus hint by image background color;
    • search for max coordinate value while rotating the tool;
    • save measurements to report;
    • fixation of max values along X and Z;
    • manual measurement mode via image;
    • adjustment of readings by Z axis;
    • self-diagnostics mode.

    Dedicated support for working with a nutrometer zeroing device. The software includes panels for different diameter ranges, target input, data validation, motion start, and emergency stop.

    Production Benefits

  • Less Machine Downtime

    Tool is set up outside the machine. Setup is performed in parallel with part machining.

  • Higher Machining Stability

    Accurate pre-installation measurements help reduce setup risks and the number of test cuts.

  • Edge Parameter Control

    Allows measurement of individual cutting edges, stores max values, and creates result reports.

  • User-Friendly Touch Interface

    Operator works via intuitive software: calibration, measurements, data saving, report viewing in a single environment.

  • Russian Development

    Domestic system for industrial machining and tool management tasks. Alternative to foreign solutions.

    This composition enables use of the presetter as a standalone measurement complex for the toolroom or machining shop.

    Who is it suitable for?

    Kvantron Smart AP450 is suitable for enterprises where accuracy, repeatability, and reduced setup time matter:

    • engineering plants;
    • toolrooms;
    • production with CNC machines;
    • serial machining;
